Welcome Janet Lane Walters Today

Please give a warm welcome to author Janet Lane Walters who is joining us this last Friday of August.

To get us started can you tell us a little about what you are working on or have coming out?

I am working on a story called Rekindled Dreams and this is the second in a series of twelve spicy contemporary romances where the heroines are all born under the sign of Cancer. Here the hero is an Aries, a kind of take charge guy who has just quit his job as a city cop. The heroine is seven months divorced and nine months pregnant. They have a shared past and he left town the day after their high school graduation. Can those dreams be rekindles or will the flames be drowned?

I am also working on the opening story for a collection of tales concerning The Amber Chronicles. I received the rights back and decided to republish them but I needed to find a way to introduce Emme, the heroine or villainess depending on the story and show why she became the Woman Cast In Amber and how she was redeemed.

If we asked your muse to describe you using five words, what do you think they would say?

Though I don’t have a muse, I’ll give this a shot. Eclectic, Stubborn, Mother, Imaginative, Old

Name one thing readers would be surprised to know about you.

I once composed music and began writing the words and music for an opera.  Montezuma. Words in blank verse.

If you could live anywhere in the world, where would it be?

Actually I live in the place where I always wanted to live. Many years ago, I was visiting a friend in this town and as we drove down the hill and I saw the Hudson River, I said. “I really have to live here. When we moved I instantly felt at home.

If someone hasn't read any of your work, what book would you recommend that they start with and why?

This is a really hard thing to decide. I’m eclectic in my writing habits as well as the reading ones. Genres and if this isn’t too much for the blog, I’ll do a bit of a rundown.

Cozy mysteries Read Murder and Mint Tea because the heroine has four more books and starting at the beginning is good.

Contemporary romances – Start with Shattered Dreams, especially if you are a Cancer woman or have a Cancer man in your life. Astrology is how I cast my characters.

Fantasy romance, I’d start with Temple of Fire since this has a great villainess and well matched hero and heroine.

Suspense – choose Code Blue – I have a good friend who can’t read the book since the bad guy scares her.

Tome Travel choose All Our Yesterdays for the heroine and hero are reincarnated in many life times until they reach understanding

YA The affinity Series starting with Escape. The main characters are based on my grandchildren.

Where do you find the inspirations for your stories?

Inspirations seem to be everywhere. Sometimes it’s something I see when I’m outside. Sometimes it’s a line in a non-fiction book I’ve been reading and sometimes the idea and the story seem to appear magically.

Are your characters able to love or do they need to be taught?

Most of the characters I write about are looking for love and must learn where to look, other than Katherine Miller in the cozy mysteries she is very connected to her friends and family and can and will do anything because she loves them. The four children in the Affinity series have love for each other and must as they grow up learn to love others.

Do you have a book that was easiest to write or one that was the hardest?

Hardest to write was the last of the Seduction Series, A Spicy Seduction. Hard because both the hero and heroine had a semi-shared past but they both had darkness in their childhoods they had to get past before they could reach to each other. Waiting a contract for the story.

Is it hard coming up with titles or characters names?

Titles usually come to me with little problem and I seldom change them, though sometimes the publishers do. I really can’t start a story until I have a title. Character names are also usually easy and that’s because I have many books of names and some are unusual name books. I try to fit the name to what I expect the character to become.

Is there any books coming that you are itching to read (either electronic or print) from your favorite authors?

Books to read are many and I can’t begin to list the ones I want to read. Among the authors I follow are Kat Attalla, Jennifer Probst, Carly Phillips, Jane Toombs, James Rollins, Mercedes Lackey and too many more to mention.

If you were to replenish your cabinets with one junk food, what would it be?

Anything salty. Love chips.

What is coming up from you in 2013? Anything you want to tease us with?

Coming up will be A Spicy Seduction, the last of a six part series. Rekindled Dreams a spicy contemporary romance. The Amber Chronicles, a series of fairy tales for adults. Some of the stories were already in some anthologies for Jewels of the Quill and others are new. Four books that are being re-released and retitled. Two involve alternate world romances set in an ancientEgypt and two are fantasy romances.

Anything else you would like to add?

http://wwweclecticwriter.blogspot.com/ I blog almost every day.
