Maya Banks’ AFTER THE STORM, is Donovan Kelly’s love story. KGI is a family-run super-elite mercenary group. The men are all strong, hard and come from a military background. Their mission is mostly hostage and kidnap victim retrieval. They come in where the US government can not. In AFTER THE STORM, Donovan finds his latest mission taking place right at home and it is taking a very personal turn.
While the set up of an elite military fighting family saving hostages and kidnap victims the world over certainly leads to great storyline possibilities, AFTER THE STORM simply fell flat. Donovan and his brothers are all everything any hot blooded female could want in a man, so why is Donovan such a sap in this book? After meeting Eve for all of two minutes, he is instantly in love with not just her, but her siblings as well. And while Eve is doing her best to keep under the radar from a past that refuses to let her go, Donovan is more concerned with getting Eve in his bed and becoming one big happy family. It just didn’t make much sense or make a good storyline. The KGI mission that we expect to come about in this book never does. The scary past Eve is on the run from is a huge disappointment when it finally catches up to her. It could have been so much more. Why on earth wasn’t there more going on in this story than a man finally getting the family he always wanted?
Maya Banks’ AFTER THE STORM is a sweet love story with some military undertones. Hopefully, the next book in this series will have more excitement.
