When ever someone owned the painting, Ghosts in the Mind by Henry Sebastian Hubert, bad things happen. For Danni Cafferty and Michael Quinn, this painting has death following it in its wake and they are racing against the clock to figure out the mysteries that surround it even as they try to make their new relationship work. Can a painting be full of evil even after two hundred years since it was painted?

I really like Heather Graham’s books, Full of suspense, intrigue with a dash of paranormal to keep things interesting. Her books are my go to when I need something that I like to call ‘Horror lite’. WAKING THE DEAD is a fast paced story that leaves you on the edge of your seat through 90% of it as twists and turns leave you hanging. I love how in this next installment in her new series, she keeps the reader guessing until the very end on the question- can a painting come to life and cause death? That question is answered at the end but the journey to it is full of mysteries, intriguing characters and more. I just could not put this one down, even to sleep.

Meet Danni Cafferty and Michael Quinn. Two very different people who find t hey have a connection via Danni’s late father in trying to solve unusual crimes. Now with this gruesome painting, Danni and Michael are racing against the clock as more people die. The characters are what make this story as well as the strong storyline. With diverse cast of characters to a storyline that flows smoothly, the author delivers a story that weaves a spell around you. I really liked how Danni, Michael and their friends/family interacted with one another as well as each other. This is truly a master storyteller at work in WAKING THE DEAD. The secondary characters are just as enjoyable and kept my interest till the very end.

WAKING THE DEAD is a wonderful suspense filled story that leaves you eager for more. The author delivers a knock out in her next book in the Cafferty & Quinn series and now I am eager for more. I just hope it isn’t a long wait. If you enjoy suspense filled story with a touch of paranormal, set amid the shadows of the Big Easy, then grab WAKING THE DEAD and settle in for a wild ride. I just suggest you keep the lights on while reading this one. You just might think that painting on the wall is out for your blood.

This is an objective review and not an endorsement.
