Marty Valdez is in major trouble. He made up a pretend boyfriend to get his family off his back and now they want the guy at his sister’s upcoming wedding. With time running out, he never anticipates meeting a sexy mysterious man who by all accounts was trying to steal his car! Undercover FBI Agent Luke Myers needs to lay low. His cover is blown and a dangerous drug cartel is determined to silence him one way or another. Meeting Marty was happenstance that Luke just couldn’t walk away from. When Marty offers Luke a chance to disappear for awhile if he pretends to be this pretend boyfriend, Luke takes him up on the offer. But with a meddling mother and Marty’s ex causing issues, well, Luke and Marty just might find that trouble just might come back to haunt them.

I got to admit I adored UNDERCOVER BOYFRIEND. The story was fast paced, characters were quite entertaining and the scenery was a delight to read since I used to live in San Antonio. With Mr. Flores trademark writing style, the reader is treated to a story that has layers of entertainment alongside some wonderfully intriguing characters. From Marty who seems to think he is nothing to no one to Luke, a bad ass FBI agent to a mother who is determined to see her children happy no matter what, Mr. Flores creates a cast of characters that left me laughing at times over their antics to sighing with pleasure as Luke and Marty bonded even more. I loved the diverse characters and how the author weaves the Mexican culture into the story as well. That made the story much more enjoyable and richer, in my opinion.

Meet Marty Valdez, Comic book artist and geek who is tired of being alone. With time running out on producing his pretend underwear model boyfriend, Marty offers a stranger  a deal that will change his life. I loved Marty. He wasn’t tall, dark and handsome. He was a geek, a ‘hot mess, sweet and more but he didn’t see it. The damage to his self-esteem from a past relationship haunts him to this day. I loved the scenes where Marty finds his inner alpha-ness and takes charge. He is a sweetie who I wanted to smack sometimes and say man up when things happen that cause him to freak out. Luke is sexy as sin, mysterious and the scenes where he lowers his guard down with Marty just melt my heart. These two are opposites but both find that they are needed by the other. The secondary cast of characters such as Marty’s ex, his family and more kept the story moving swiftly and I would love to know more about Luke’s partner, Crispin.

Overall, UNDERCOVER BOYFRIEND is a pure delight to read especially on a rainy afternoon. With the right amount of mystery, suspense, action and romance, Mr. Flores delivers a gem of a story that will keep you entertained from start to finish. I can’t wait to see what else this author has in store for their readers in the future.
