THREE HEARTS
Sloan O’Malley had it with being one of six children of an Irish
Bostonian mob boss. please her family
she became a dentist and into practice with her father. It’s not that the
lifestyle the family money gave her wasn’t appreciated—it was being used as a
pawn, by her father, to continue to build his empire. To him, all women were
good for were to be given away in marriage to shore up the family. In a
desperate bid to avoid her fate, elder brother Teague, secrets her away in a
small town. Now, for the first time in her life, Sloan is learning to stand on
her own two feet. She has a home, she’s
found a job and she has a neighbour that sparks here imagination and libido
like no other.
Jude MacNamara was not even born when his entire family was murdered. All but his mother, wiped out. Had Colm Sheridan known Jude existed he would have come for him long before this. Not one to sit back and let a wrong go unpunished, Jude has spent a lifetime preparing to kill Sheridan and his entire family. Becoming one of the best hit men has been no mean feat. He lets no one into his life because to do so would open him up to his enemies. The one thing he never planned on was Sloan.
Now, despite his best efforts he cannot stay away from Sloan, nor can she deny her feelings for him. With enemies at every turn the couple flees…but can they escape their growing passion?
Being one of those people who has to read a series in order, as
soon as I received Katee Robert’s FORBIDDEN PROMSIES for review I went back and
read the earlier books in the series:
MARRIAGE CONTRACT, MARRIAGE PACT and AN INDECENT PROPOSAL. I enjoyed both the MARRIAGE CONTRACT and AN
INDECENT PROPOSAL, but THE MARRIAGE PACT put me over the top. THAT was a fantastic
read and set the bar for any other of Robert’s books that came my way. FORBIDDEN PROMISES was a decent read, but it
didn’t have the same “can’t put this book down” impact THE MARRIAGE PACT had
for me.
I never warmed up to Sloan or Jude. While their sex scenes were
really hot, I didn’t find their attraction to each other believable. I liked the premise of Sloan getting away
from her family, trying to make a new start…and ending up with a highly
unlikely romantic partner in Jude. I admit I did read Robert’s dedication to Brock
O’Hurn and never having heard of him before just HAD to Google him. All I can
say is ohhhh my. No wonder Sloan fell
for Jude if THAT’s what he looks like. Can we please make this series into a
movie and have O’Hurn play Jude? Please?
Marge, the owner of the town diner, was a hoot and at the same time a solid character I wouldn’t mind seeing again. Dimitri Romanov scared the pants off me in AN INDECENT PROPOSAL and even more so in FORBIDDEN PROMSIES. Even with minimal appearances the guy creeps me out.
While the earlier books had some hot sex scenes, FORBIDDEN PROMISES crossed over into heavy erotica.
This is an objective review and not an endorsement of this book.
