> Eight grade Candace Ong is one of the few Chinese kids in her middle school and has a big problem with thinking that she is fat. Her supposed best friend is skinnier and loves to remind Candace that in their friendship she’s the pretty one and Candace is the fat one. Lately Ruby has been showing more of her wild side by ditching Candace when they’re hanging out for guys. Candace has always envied the wild life style of her best friend but lately it has gotten worse. While Candace is stuck making egg rolls Ruby gets to do whatever she fancies. When the offer arises to get out of Eggroll Wonderland, her parents restaurant, Candace might just take it.
The amazing closeness to actual teenager life this book is, well…amazing. This author has done a great job with this novel and readers will be very fulfilled by her writing. The characters make you become completely engulfed in the book and the plot is very good. As unrealistic as this book is this reader can still relate to the story and feel as if it could happen in real life. Because of these things this book is definitely a five star book without a doubt. This book has just the right amount of everything; spice, attitude, suspense, mystery, insight. Even though this book is written in first person, the reader will feel as if it is omniscient. This reviewer would recommend this book to pretty much any teenager or adult who is not bothered by cuss words. And parents; yes, the portrayal of Candace is extremely close to what your child may be doing.
