Fredrika Bimm, known as Fred, is a cranky mermaid trying hard to live a normal life in the human world. She has an irritating job and is also annoyed that her boss Dr. Barb and best friend Jonas are swooning all over each other. Her mind constantly swings between Artur a Mer-man prince and Jonas her best friend, two very sexy but different men.

When she is visited by two of her fellow Mer-people she is a bit reluctant to even chat to them. They want her to travel to the Cayman Islands for a special meeting known as a Pelagic. Reluctantly Fred agrees and after an eventful and very funny journey with Jonas, they arrive at a private resort.

Artur Thomas, her co-worker and many of the mer-people are there, so Fred is pleased she does not have to hide her scaly problem. Being wooed by both Artur and Thomas, makes Fred feel better about herself. She’s also annoyed with Artur, because he has not been in touch for a year.

Zany, witty, and invigorating, SWIMMING WITHOUT A NET is a laugh out loud book. The sexy relationships are intriguing and the dialogue is wickedly witty as Fred causes all kinds of problems for her friends. Fred’s fear of open water makes this mermaid very abnormal and is the reason she has never visited the undersea realm. The interaction between the characters is light and easy to understand. Conflicts abound and make this tale zing, as Fred begins to realize she can have the best of both worlds. Thomas and his custom made undersea RV, is a stroke of genius and the place for some very interesting action. Fred is inclined to escape into the RV, and it makes her love life a very interesting challenge.

Ms. Davidson has created an interesting set of characters with a heroine that always seems to find trouble of a different kind. She’s fun and her hero is a pure delight as he tries to woo her both in and out of the water. The ending leaves the reader with the hope that the follow up book will not be too long in coming.
