Welcome Devyn Quinn!

Welcome Ms. Quinn to Love Romances and More, thank you for joining

Thanks for welcoming me to Love Romances. I am delighted to be here.

Did you always want to become a writer?

I knew I wanted to be a writer since I was 7 years old.

What is the most, and the least interesting fact about writing?

The most interesting fact about writing is the research. Whether you write mystery, historical or any type of fiction you usually need to do some sort of research! The least interesting fact about writing...well, I can’t think of one!

How did you celebrate your first release? What was it like to see your book in a bookstore? Do you have a special ritual for celebrating a book release?

I don’t celebrate my releases, mostly because my family doesn’t care for my goth-erotic books and would rather not hear about them. I don’t have any sort of ritual, etc... It’s just another day in my world.

How did they react to fact that you also write steamier novels? Have your family read your books?

My parents are very unhappy with my genre and wish I’d write something else or get a real job. No, my family will not read my books.

Most authors are also avid readers. Is this the case with you? If so, who are some of your favorites? Have any influenced your writing?

I read every day, even if it’s only a few pages of my favourite magazines. I enjoy reading history and biography most, and there are so many good authors that I can hardly begin to name them. I also read some fiction, and enjoy John Grisham’s legal thrillers, the early Stephen King and every old gothic I can lay my hands on from the 70’s.

Your characters come to life in your books. Do you feel each of your characters live with you as you write? Do their lives sometimes take over a part of your life? Can you name an example? Do you have living role models for your characters?

To a certain extent, I feel that my brain space is the stage my character tell their stories on, so for the time they are acting out their story it is like they are real. But, no they don’t take over my life. I am the one in the driver’s seat and I make the final decision as to what will go down on paper. Yes, I have a few living models of my characters, mostly actors I’d love to see cast in the movie version of my books! LOL

Where do you get the inspirations for your books?

Everywhere! You just never know when something as simple as a commercial will trigger your next novel!

Do you find it difficult at times to write love/sex scenes?

I can do heavy emotions with ease, but the sex scenes are hardest, as how to make a physical act that’s basically a few moves seem more interesting than it really is.

What is your favorite book from the books that you have written so far? Who are your favourite heroes and heroines, and why?

I think my most favourite books are and always will be The Keeper of Eternity and the Price of Eternity. My favourite hero is Morgan Saint-Evanston, an anti-hero actually. I think I like writing for him because he is just a bad-to-the-bone selfish bastard who has no business being a hero, but is by default. My favourite heroine is Callie Whitten from Embracing Midnight. She’s got a lot of problems but she’s managed to overcome them and survive. She’s a real kick ass, get it done heroine.

Which book was the hardest to write and which the easiest?

None of them are easy for me. Every single one presents its own unique challenge, from plotting to deadline pressure.

If you could change places with one character from your books, who would it be and why?

I would change places with Morgan Saint-Evanston, because I think being the freaking Grim Reaper would be cool. Yeah, I could definitely get into his world and have some fun!

If you could travel through time to visit a special time period or famous person, what or who would it be and why?

I think I would go and visit Marilyn Monroe. She died before I was born, but she’s always fascinated me. To this day her mystique and legend still intrigues people. I want to know what happened to her!

Do you listen to music while you are writing and if so what music is it?

Yes, I do! I can’t write without mood music. I listen to anything from modern pop to classical, depending on the mood I need for the scene I am writing.

If you could choose of your books for a movie, which one would it be and who would you as the cast?

LOL, once again I got back to the Eternity series. My dream cast would have James McAvoy for Morgan and Kiera Knightley for Julienne Blackthorne. James McAvoy needs to age up a bit, but I think he would be a really kick-ass Morgan. I loved these two in Atonement and they’d be perfect.

Are you working on anything right now, and can you tell us a teaser about these projects?

I am working on Man After Midnight, the sequel to Flesh and the Devil. This time, Dani Wallace has accidentally gotten herself engaged to an underworld prince. I’ve been sharing excerpts along the way, so here’s a little peek for readers. If you find typos, keep in mind this hadn’t been cleaned up by Kensington’s copy editors, LOL:

If Dani found the landscape of Sedah to be icy and unwelcoming, then she could say with conviction the living quarters were equally inhospitable to comfort and warmth.
Hands on her hips, she surveyed her new quarters with growing horror. There was nothing in the rooms, no furniture, no carpeting, just blank walls and bare spaces. Illumination from no readily apparent source lent a harsh, unrelenting glare. Compared to the luxuries spilling through out the rest of the great castle, these rooms were an insult.
Noticing her dismay, Casedren laughed softly. “It is empty because it awaits your command to fill it.”
“What do you mean, my command to fill it?”
“Are you not a Wyr-witch, able to spell out what you desire?”
Convinced his mental marbles had spilled out and were rolling around loose, Dani gave him a funny look. “Um, I don’t know what kind of spelling your people do around here, but where I come from you just don’t wave a wand to furnish your house.”
“So what do you do?”
“Well, we usually go to a furniture store.”
“Ah, commerce. The trade of goods and services for pieces of paper and plastic.” He shook his head in wonder. “I still do not understand how your people attach value to their possessions through the exchange of such an intangible thing as cash and credit.”
Dani sighed, just wishing her credit card balance was an intangible thing.
“Don’t the Jadian people have a system of trade to get the necessary items for living?” She eyed the empty space. “Or do you just levitate in the middle of the room for comfort and eat air for sustenance?”
Casedren smiled. “Wish-craft.”
Dani blinked. “What?”
“Wish-craft,” he said again. “Many of the women we marry have no cultic training. It is simpler for them to learn wish-craft. As you are a witch, you should be able to command the homunculi with ease.”
“Homunculi?” she questioned. “Isn’t that a—”
“A witches’ servant. Yes. They merely wait your command.”
Dani looked around. She didn’t like those little bastards one bit. They were sneaking, devious things. “Where are they?”
Casedren looked offended. “Embedded in the stone, of course. The little buggers are too unpredictable to let run loose. Given free reign, they hardly mind.”
She shivered at the idea that the walls had eyes and ears. “I take it as, uh, Lucifer’s nearest and dearest that the Jadians have access to all the little beasties in hell?”
Casedren laughed and attempted to explain. “They are not sentient, but more like a mechanical device. They perform a function. They have no feeling, thought or individual identity. It is like flipping a light switch. The electricity produces light. Here, the homunculi are the energy that powers your wishes.”
She was beginning to catch on. Suddenly it didn’t sound so bad. The material girl inside perked up. “So what ever I wish for, I get?”
He grinned. “Within reason. The homunculi can only provide things which will contribute to your physical comfort.”
Dani pursed her lips in frustration. “So wishing your twin brother would drop dead is out?”

Another great excerpt!
I have a feeling that Dani is not going to let Cellyn push her or Casedren around. Can't wait to read more!
