THE TIME OF NEW WEATHER by Sean Murphy
Publisher Dell Date published May 2008 ISBN 978-0-553-58679-4 Futuristic Fiction Mass Market Paperback Reviewed by Valerie The world has changed. Gravity storms are prevalent so everything is nailed to the floor or Velcro-ed to counter tops. Strange new diseases have popped up like, On-To-The-Next-Thing Syndrome or Many-Things-At-Once Disorder. Buddy LeBlanc remembers when things weren’t so bad. He’s found out however that he can perform small miracles. He joins a band of fellow seekers, renegade circus freaks, ragtag revolutionaries, a woman in search of her hat and a very gorgeous journalist who Buddy knows is his soul mate. He’s known all his life that that special someone was out there for him. Too bad she’s engaged to a rather rude fellow. When it looks like the whole world is going to...the corporation, Buddy may just be the not-so-capable person to set things right again. This book had me on the first page. I was drawn in right away, held tight, shaken, squeezed, stroked, turned inside out and had a wonderful time reading this great story. It’s quirky, funny, highly satirical, but also so close to the truth that I had to put it down now and then and muse over some points. This is a blend of political craziness, philosophical ramblings and some very poignant moments. This author has been compared to some great literary authors, and I can only agree with these esteemed colleagues. I had to laugh out loud at some of the quirkier characters. I had sighed in frustration at Buddy’s attempts to get closer to his love. This book is definitely worth a re-read and I can recommend it.
