Lady Victoria Gardella Grantworth de Lacy must prove herself. Rome is preparing itself for the Carnival and as the new leader of the city’s vampire hunters she needs to gain access to the secrets of a legendary alchemist. The vampires are after these secrets too and have allied themselves with creatures as evil and bloodthirsty as they are. She doesn’t want to, but she needs the help of Sebastian Vioget, and at the same time Maximilian Pesaro arrives to help his fellow slayers. Desire ties her to Sebastian and loyalty binds her to Max, but she doesn’t know if she can trust either man. Just when a seductive vampire begins luring her into the darkness and wants to claim her as his own, she’s hard pressed to decide who she can trust. Then her family shows up and demands her presence.

Now this is a story with a difference. Yes, we have vampire hunters, bloodthirsty vampires but all set in a regency background. Yes, dear reader, our heroine runs around in long skirts and sometimes has to comply with her family’s wishes to attend parties and soirees. Hunting vampires can sometimes be so messy, but Victoria has become an expert and even her corset has been modified to hold her stakes and silver knives. This story has a dark edge to it, compelling characters and interesting secondary characters. The plot is gripping and the writing is sharp and tight. This is the third story in The Gardella Vampire Chronicles and the next one comes out in August this year. The titles so far are, The Rest Falls Away and Rises The Night. Looks like I’ve got some catching up to do.
