Doctor Austin McKenzie (DVM), his wife Madeline, veterinary assistants Allegra Fulbright and Joe Turnblad (along with a collie – Lincoln), make up the office of: McKenzie Veterinary Practice Inc., and the private detective agency – Cases Closed Inc. The vet, along with the detective agency, is actively engaged when Melvin Staples, a New York state milk inspector, turns up dead and dumped into a 400 bulk milk tank at the Tre Sorelle dairy. This death is followed by the untimely demise of tax assessor Brian Folk in the same manner of Melvin Staples. The police investigation, headed by Lt Simon Provost, aided and assisted by the editor and publisher of the Summersville Sentinel, Rita Santelli, along with reporter Nigel Fish, gets ensnarled, and needs the assistance (of course) of Cases Closed Inc.

This reviewer truly enjoyed THE CASE OF THE ILL – GOTTEN GOAT. The writing of THE CASE OF THE ILL – GOTTEN GOAT is tight, and the characters are well done. The interplay between the veterinarian and his wife, Madeline is amusing and well thought out. This reviewer particularly enjoyed the trip through cheese making and processing – especially the differences brought out between cow and goat cheese processing. The other characters are fleshed out, and work very well within the story. The twists and turns of THE CASE OF THE ILL–GOTTEN GOAT are thoroughly enjoyable and entertaining. The somewhat surprising conclusion to this fun tale is great. Claudia Bishop has produced yet another winner. This reviewer is quite motivated to obtain and read all of her other works.
