Emmaline has not seen Geoffrey in five years. When he left England for America he promised that in a year’s time he would come for her, they would be married and then he would take her back to his ranch in Kansas. But instead of coming back, he sends her tickets for her to join him. He broke so many promises. How could she trust him now after all this time?
Geoffrey has thought of nothing but Emmaline for the past five years. It took him much longer to get his sheep ranch up and running than he first anticipated that it would. And now his beloved Emmaline wants nothing to do with him or America. Geoffrey makes her an offer. Stay at his ranch as his housekeeper until spring and if she still feels the same way, he will take her back to England himself.
A PROMISE FOR SPRING offers a touch of the inspirational genre, although it is not a focal point throughout the whole book. Both Emmaline and Geoffrey face many trials and tribulations that test their faith and each must face them in their own way. The one thing that I felt was a bit redundant and kept this book from obtaining a five-heart rating is Emmaline’s second fleeing attempt. One would have sufficed. Emmaline made it perfectly clear that she was not happy at the ranch and with Geoffrey.
I have read several books from Kim Vogel Sawyer, and loved each and every one. This one did not disappoint. While the plot is not completely original, Ms. Sawyer has offered us a gratifying tale with her own unique talented style of a woman who is terribly homesick, that has traveled across the ocean to marry a virtual stranger! The rich detail given to the Kansas conditions and the feelings of our leading characters make this a totally believable story, one that readers can really sink their teeth into. A PROMISE FOR SPRING is a must read for lovers of Historical Romances offered from Bethany House. Ms Sawyer once again delights! This book is very well penned, easy to follow, and it a page turner from start to finish.
