Madeline Arsenault wants to prove that she can run the family’s champagne house after the death of her father. Kelly Elson, formerly a hotel maid, inherits a vineyard from the father she never knew. Christina Morgan is determined to make a success of the vineyard that her ex-husband gifted her. These three women’s stories are explored and developed within VINTAGE.
VINTAGE deftly weaves the three ladies’ stories into an easy beach read. The author develops the characters fully. We learn what makes them tick and why they are so driven to be successful. It was difficult to decide which of the three storylines was the most compelling as each woman is determined to succeed in a male-dominated industry. They are all likable and strong characters who will perk the readers’ interests thus there should be no problem finishing this book. Since the story features three vintners, readers will learn more (perhaps a little too much) of how wine is grown. At times, I just wanted to skim through that information and move on to the juicier parts. And yes, it does contain some tantalizing action as the ladies deal with the men/women in their lives as well as a villain trying to ruin them.
VINTAGE reminds me of the books by Judith Krantz which I read voraciously in the 80’s. They were totally addictive, thoroughly enjoyable and VINTAGE definitely fits into that category. It is a great summer/beach book that doesn’t require much effort on the readers’ part other than turning the pages.
