CLICK TO PURCHASE! EPISTOLS AT DAWN by Z.A. Maxfield is another delightful book by an author that has quickly become a favorite. In EPISTOLS AT DAWN you meet Kelly Kendall who wrote a coming out, coming of age book called Doorways. Not to mention he suffers from a crippling case of OCD. He desire anonymity and lives hidden behind many layers. He loses a bet to his houseboy and writes a satire of his own book under a different name.
Jae-sun Fields is a reporter for the Adversary and is appalled when someone dares to desecrate his favorite book, Doorways by satirizing it. He starts a search to expose the woman that he is sure committed this crime. But when he meets Kelly, he is stunned by the fact that he is a man and by the attraction between them. What will happen now?
This is a story about complicated men and that is what makes this story so fascinating. Kelly with his problems is a man who seems to have come to terms with things but his houseboy/factotum/all-around slut, Will thinks differently. Will is a great secondary character. Not only does he help drive the story forward but he is a very interesting character on his own. Jae must face the facts that sometimes things are not black and white. I found this story to be very interesting. It addressed several issues in the story with understanding and grace. OCD, the outing of people publicly, the right to remain anonymous, and that no one is immune from prejudice. Z.A. Maxfield has written a wonderful story that incorporates all of this as well as a sexual tension between Jae and Kelly that will just take your breath away. This is a not to be missed book. I give it a rating of 5.
