Welcome to Jeanne Barrack's guest blog

My name is Jeanne Barrack. I'm published with Loose Id, Liquid Silver Books, MLR Press and Aspen Mountain Press.
Although I've been published in m/f erotic romances in paranormal, historical, contemporary and Urban Fantasy for several years, last year saw the release of my first m/m erotic romance with Loose Id. The Sweet Flag was a true labor of love for me. It incorporated many of my favorite genres: historical, paranormal and an interracial/multicultural theme.

The blurb for The Sweet Flag reads: "Brandon Keats is a paranormal investigator, specializing in Civil War phenomena. As a gay man, he's searched for years for evidence of gay paranormal activity. When he finally finds what he believes to be an example of this, he decides to confront the ghost of a homosexual Civil War soldier at the grave where he's been sighted.
Ron Tayvail has guarded the grave of Matthew Hardesty for years. When he learns of Brandon's interest in the legend of "The Vigilant Soldier", he's determined to dissuade him from any deeper investigation. He didn't realize that he'd fall in love with the fellow on first sight."

The love story in the past between Aaron deMonde and Matthew Hardesty had many obstacles to overcome besides the fact of their being involved in a same sex relationship. Matthew was from a wealthy, Southern, Christian family while deMonde was a bastard of mixed blood and a Jew besides. That they fell in love in the midst of one of the most contentious periods of American history fueled their love story. When Brandon in the present uncovers this, he faces the validation of everything he had devoted his life to: the existence of paranormal activity.

Besides the love stories, I also introduced a tragic character with a unique history. Kazvan, the apparent villain of the piece will have his own book later this winter.

My latest m/m book, Bend in the Road, from MLR Press, is a straight historical, erotic romance set during the 1880s in eastern Europe. It actually is two interconnected novellas concerning the characters in a traveling Yiddish theater troupe.
The blurb for the book:
"BEND IN THE ROAD, set in Eastern Europe in the 1880s, introduces us to two couples that find safe havens in the insular world of a traveling Yiddish theater troupe. IN THE LION'S DEN brings us Daniel Bercovich, a young man in the first throes of finding his identity. Can the man he comes to love accept a new side to him? Yuval Smolenski finds more than the inspiration for his music, he finds something everlasting in FROM STAGE TO STAGE. These Jewish men in love must deal not only with the stigma of that love but also fear the rise of anti-Semitism. Can their love survive all the forces that surround them?"

When I wrote the stories, I thought of the folktales from my childhood. Visions of Marc Chagall's vibrant, rainbow colored paintings filled my mind. The characters in these tales were inspired to a great degree by my grandparents, aunts and uncles and my childhood friends couldn't openly express their "different" feelings.

A sequel to Bend in the Road is also planned for early next year.

Thanks so much for having me here today.
