LOVE AT FIRST STAKE had me laughing hysterically within minutes. It was truly a story that tickles the funny bone and keeps you glued to the pages. I loved how Savannah always seemed to get Donatello back in some way either with words or with her “enthusiasm” for hunting vampires. Mr. Morgan does a wonderful job keeping the reader highly entertained and ready for more as Savannah and Donatello go after a rogue vampire determined to start the next Vampire-Human war. With some really hilarious moments to some tender ones, the reader is treated to a gauntlet of emotions and you will never get bored.
LOVE AT FIRST STAKE introduces the reader to Savannah Marshall, a new vampire hunter who thinks she did it right when she bags a vampire right on her first night out. What she gets is a vampire who makes her knees weak and drives her slightly insane. This is a delightful character that had me howling in laughter over her one-liners to finding out that the man of her dreams is a vampire. Mr. Morgan delivers two characters that keep you on your toes and looking forward to the next part of their relationship. Donatello Ravell is a vampire enforcer, one who polices his kind and when Savannah decides to stake him, he wasn’t the only one who was surprised by the entire mess. This was a wonderful foil to Savannah…strong yet vulnerable, exasperated by Savannah yet charmed at the same time. I really enjoyed these two together and add in some great secondary characters and the reader is entrenched in a world where vampires and humans are the norm.
LOVE AT FIRST STAKE brings to mind Mary Janice Davidson’s Betsy the Vampire queen series, full of laughter, mysteries and other good stuff to keep the reader entertained and intrigued. If you enjoy Ms. Davidson’s vampire series, then grab Mr. Morgan’s first book in the Love Bites series, LOVE AT FIRST STAKE. Just make sure that you are not drinking while reading this- the antics of Savannah and Donatello will keep you in stitches from start to finish.
