Kaylee Cavanaugh just wants to be normal. MY SOUL TO TAKE was an enjoyable story about a young girl who always knew she was different and had major issues, mainly her non-existent father and trying to survive high school but when Kaylee finds herself the center of something much bigger than she realizes, Kaylee finds herself trying to puzzle it all out while trying to stay alive. Ms. Vincent delves into the world of the Bean Sidhe and delivers a charmingly engrossing tale for young adults and which adults can also enjoy. This author really kept my attention as I tried to figure out what and who was causing the deaths along side Kaylee and when the last page was read, I was floored by the subtle twists and turns this author delivered in MY SOUL TO TAKE.
I have to say I have never read any of Ms. Vincent’s books before and this caught my eye as it is unusual to hear of a banshee teenager with the typical teenage angst and problems on top of the mystery of what actually Kaylee was/is. This was a very engrossing story and I read it in one sitting. MY SOUL TO TAKE definitely delivers a wonderful cast of characters, mysteries, tight writing and folklore all rolled up in one neat package. If you enjoy a different take on the banshee lore, then try Ms. Vincent’s debut MY SOUL TO TAKE. Even though it is a young adult title, adults will like this as well for sheer pleasure of reading enjoyment. I am really looking forward to the next Kaylee novel hopefully coming soon from Ms. Vincent and I plan to look into her other books as well. MY SOUL TO TAKE is definitely one of those you can read over and over again.
