The Familiar is a little different, he’s one of the main characters—a cat detective owned by Eleanor Curry.

Michelle Sieck is a wedding photographer, who has no idea what trouble will be brewing in her life when uninvited she takes pictures at the wedding of Lorry, a woman in the witness program. Lucas West the groomsman tries to stop her and takes her memory card, but after she’s gone finds out it’s the wrong one. When there’s a mix up at the gallery where Michelle’s work is on display, it brings danger, it seems Lucas is the only one to keep her safe.
With gangsters chasing them across the US, as they search for the bride and groom, to warn them they’re being hunted, they find they actually like each other.

Well it’s the first time I’ve read a book with a cat as one of the main characters, but it was an enjoyable and interesting story. Familiar is a cat with attitude. He’s a gem, with a lady friend called Clotilde, and has a tongue in cheek attitude. Michelle the heroine is a lot like the cat, as she seems at times to be difficult for the sake of it with sharp retorts. Lucas finds he has a challenging job, trying to keep them both safe as the gangsters close in. The resourceful hero is very likeable and the large cast is easy to understand. The settings are diverse and the story is very well written. I recommend this as a story with a difference, and not only for cat lovers.
