Dakota, once a pop princess, has returned to her childhood home to reinvent herself from a goody-two-shoes into a hard knockin’ country diva. While living in L.A. her parents have retired and moved away, turning the operation of their fishing resort to retired cowboy, Trace Coleman. He is not happy to have the little princess return, knowing she will be nothing but trouble. While wearing his displeasure at Dakota’s return, Trace also can’t deny that he finds her incredibly attractive.

The blurb on the back of the book grabbed my attention. HE’S NO PRINCE CHARMING has a good plot but I soon grew tired of Dakota’s screaming and Trace rushing to her rescue. This can only happen a time or two and then it gets old, really fast. At one time, I swore if author LuAnne McLane penned Dakota screaming one more time, I would scream as well. And lo-and-behold, not a few pages later... You would think this was a horror book with all of the yelling going on. But alas, it isn’t.

Also there was nothing that held my interest. The characters did not have any chemistry. All of the events in the book were expected. I felt that the characters should have been written as a bunch of teen-agers. There are two couples in this book, our leading characters Dakota and Trace. Then there is also a budding relationship between two employees of the resort, Sierra and Grady, going on at the same time. The relationship between Sierra and Grady actually held my interest much better than the one of Dakota and Trace.

The ending of the book was well thought out and was the best part of the book. Although, it did add to the pleasure of the book, it is not enough to make this a more pleasurable read as by the time you get that far you just do not want to even pick the book up anymore. Had I not had an obligation to read it through for this review, I would never have finished the entire book. I know that Ms. McLane has some wonderful books in her backlist. And I wish her all the success in her future work. However, HE’S NO PRINCE CHARMING did not charm me.

THIS IS NOT AN ENDORSEMENT OF THIS BOOK. THIS IS AN OBJECTIVE UNBIASED REVIEW
