Zoë Cyprienne Lane is just a mere seamstress‘s daughter and knows she isn’t in the same social league as Lord Rhys Langford. She knows there can never be anything between them but friendship but when she finds out he is being held captive in the Carpathian Mountains, she will move heaven and earth to get to him, even as she tries to keep the love she feels for Rhys a secret. Guided by her psychic connection to him, both Rhys and Zoë will find an enemy to the Drakon that is out to destroy them all.
THE TREASURE KEEPER is the fourth book in The Drakon Series by Ms. Abe. I do highly recommend reading the first three books first to get an idea of the back-story and introduction of the series itself (The Smoke Thief, The Dream Thief, Queen of Dragons). This time, Ms. Abe delivers the reader to Paris, France and captivates you from the first page. With a strong heroine to root for, a romance to root for and a bad guy that will have you hissing in displeasure-Ms. Abe delivers an action packed story that will have you eager for more. Lyrical writing, great cast of characters and a mystery that keeps you entertained till the end. The one complaint I had was that this author reveals a twist at pretty much the end of the book in regards to the bad guys and whatnot, which doesn’t leave the reader with much to cheer about. I would have preferred that it happened a bit earlier in the book to give the reader a chance to get invested more into this. Otherwise, TREASURE KEEPER was a wonderful told story.
THE TREASURE KEEPER moves to Paris, France and here we meet seamstress daughter, Zoë, a childhood friend of Lord Rhys Langford. She has loved him for years but knowing they are not on the same social ladder has her conforming to what she presumes others expect of her. In this latest Drakon novel, we get to see Zoë’s self-discovery on the limits she put upon herself. This is by far the best part of the story in my opinion. Zoë is a strong, fearless heroine who the reader can connect with from the beginning. I loved how she was eventually able to see the constraints she put upon herself and that self-discovery translated beautifully within the pages of THE TREASURE KEEPER. Lord Rhys Langford is captured by the Drakon’s enemy, one that is as powerful as they are. Mystery surrounds this person and it is up to Rhys & Zoë as they race to stop this madman from destroying the Drakon……forever. Rhys is a wonderful hero and Ms. Abe captures his soul completely even as he finally admitted he loved Zoë for so long. It was a delight to see these two finally connect together, the way they should have years before-that is before duty and expectations decided for them. Some wonderful secondary characters keep the story flowing smoothly and Ms. Abe’s writing just keeps getting better with each Drakon book.
THE TREASURE KEEPER is a wonderful story to read though I highly recommend reading the first three books in the series first as you may be a bit confused if you start with this one. If you are looking for a dragon series to keep you entertained, then grab Ms. Abe’s Drakon series and be swept away. A satisfying read even with some misses in the story itself. I look forward to reading more of Ms. Abe’s Drakon books in the future.
This is an objective review and not an endorsement of this book.
