Bethral is a beautiful and fierce warrior. Impulsively, she had saved Ezren Storer from a fate worse than death and now he lives in the castle. He wears bands around his wrists, bands that hold in the rogue magic. When these bands one day crumble, the magic explodes all around him. To save him again, Bethral goes with him to another plain, they are both banished. Now they must work together to survive in this new world. They meet up with a civil war and a tribe of warriors who have customs unfamiliar. There are also warrior-priests bent on taking Ezron for their own needs. Bethral is determined to save the man she secretly loves and Ezron is willing to do anything for the lady he feels he doesn’t deserve.

This is really a thrilling story that captured me from the first pages. I loved the way Ms. Vaughan has blended fantasy with romance to pen a story that is magical and romantic. I loved her characters. They fairly leapt off the pages. The world building is very well done and the peoples and customs are all very real. This story twists and turns and you are constantly wondering what will happen next, then you go ‘oh!’ because the unexpected happened. All the secondary characters are pivotal to the story and add depth and life. Unfortunately, this seems to be the third book in the trilogy and I haven’t read the books before. I will be remedying that remiss very soon! If you enjoy a good fantasy story with a touch of a sensual romance, then I urge you to get this book. I think, like me, you will want to read the first two books too.

This is an objective review and not an endorsement of this book.
