Susie O’Brien and Mack Franklin have been “Not Dating” for years and finally Susie has had enough of trying to figure out if Mack loves her or not. Determined to find out once and for all how Mack feels, she is blindsided by a health scare that leaves her reeling. Susie will need Mack more than ever as she faces something worse than she ever had before.

Mack Franklin loves Susie but when he loses his job, he figures it’s not the time to tell her his feelings, but when Susie finds out all hell breaks loose. Mack has to show Susie she means the world to him and man up to his feelings for life has decided to throw a curve ball that could have Mack losing Susie just when he figures out he needs her more than ever.

Sherryl Woods is a marvelous storyteller who completely captivates her readers with each of her books. In her latest Chesapeake Shores novel, she finally gets to Susie and Mack’s story. I fell in love with these two since the first book of the series (Inn at Eagle Point). What make this author’s books so wonderful are her realistic characters and emotional stories. In BEACH LANE, she tackles a serious topic (Ovarian Cancer) and delivers a strong, heartfelt story which had me in tears a few times even as I rooted for these two wonderful characters to get their happily ever after. The writing is tight, story fast paced and the characters very realistic. I couldn’t put this book down even to go to sleep. I just had to find out what happens next for Susie, Mack and all their friends and family.

Meet Susie O’Brien and Mack Franklin. They have been best friends for years and everyone is tired of hearing how they are “not dating”. Family and friends see the sparks between these two and are hopeful that they will take the next step. Susie and Mack feel like old friends to me in BEACH LANE. They have been in each of the books in the Chesapeake Shores stories in some capacity and I loved how they finally got their own book. The characters feel like you could meet them on the street and can be friends with them in a heartbeat. They are multi-dimensional and I could definitely relate to them.

A Sherryl Woods book is like you are coming home after a long visit. BEACH LANE is no exception. I was laughing, crying and smiling throughout the story and found myself cheering when I read the last page. The reader is taken on an emotional journey that will have you reaching for the Kleenex. If you are looking for a captivating story then I highly recommend BEACH LANE and the entire Chesapeake Shores series. I cannot wait for the next book in this series coming in October. You don’t have to read these in order but I highly recommend you do to get the full effect of the O’Brien Family and their friends. BEACH LANE is another superb story from the talented Ms. Woods and one I plan to read again over the summer.

This is an objective review and not an endorsement of this book.
