Nessa is a Hunter and perhaps the strongest witch alive. But after waiting for centuries for her one true love to be reincarnated and return to her, she finally loses all hope and decides to get on with what is left of her life. Of course, now that she has moved on, he finds her.
Dominic is a Hunter who fears for his sanity. When he sleeps, his dreams of a mystery woman are so real they almost feel like memories. When he hears her speaking to him in mid-mission it almost gets him killed, he decides to seek help. Unfortunately, when he finally does find the woman of his dreams, her memory of him is gone.
Shiloh Walker’s HUNTER’S FALL is a story of such pain and heartbreak that it was almost difficult to keep reading. Nessa watched the man she loves more than anything die in her hands with a promise to return for her on his lips. Centuries have gone by without his return and she is now bone tired from waiting. She is ready to end it all and meet up with him in the afterlife. Her story is positively heartbreaking. The irony is that while she ends up with amnesia after giving up on her man, he catches her scent, realizes his dream woman is real and decides to find her whatever the cost only to realize that she doesn’t remember him.
On the plus side, Shiloh Walker really knows how to pull at heartstrings. The storyline was well thought out and original. The characters were well fleshed out and the pace of the book was steady.
On the negative side, the author does such an incredible job of describing her character’s emotional turmoil that this reader was left with a depressing “Oprah Book Club” feeling every time the book was put down. It took more than half the book before the main characters actually meet. By the time the happily ever after finally arrives, it failed to overcome the feelings of sadness and despair that overshadowed the entire book.
Fans of Shiloh Walker’s Hunter stories will probably enjoy HUNTER’S FALL for the emotion-laden and well written story that it is. For this reader, it was simply too depressing to enjoy. But don’t take my word for it, pick up a copy and see for yourself. There isn’t a better time than the long days of summer to read a book.
