Thea Harrison’s second highly anticipated Elder Races book, STORM’S HEART, is a dark and deadly game of politics and passion.
Niniane (aka Thistle “Tricks” Periwinkle) has been living among the Wyr since she fled the fairy demesne when her uncle murdered her family and took the throne for himself. Now that her Uncle is dead, she has come out to the public and is preparing to travel to the Fairy Demesne to ascend to the throne. But not everyone is happy to see her return. Luckily for her, Wyr Sentinel Tiago Black Eagle has taken it upon himself to assure her safety after an assassination attempt.
Tiago is a Thunderbird with the ability to wield thunder and lightning. He is an important and feared member of the Wyr demesne. When Tiago and Niniane come together, their coupling shakes the entire supernatural world.
STORM’S HEART takes readers into the demesne of the Dark Fae for Niniane’s coronation. The journey there is filled with danger and it is difficult to tell Niniane’s allies from her enemies. Niniane is an interesting and multifaceted character. She has always known that one day she would have to step up and rule. But she always thought that day would be far in her future. Now that the day has come, she sheds her “Tricks” persona and embraces her royal Niniane. Her struggle to be a strong and fair leader with a vision for her people, while strong opposition lurks in hiding all around her makes her a character readers will really empathize with. Tiago hasn’t spent all that much time with Tricks, but when he finds himself guarding Niniane, feelings he had never had before surface. Tiago is such a contradiction. Seeing one moment the strong, battle driven and fearsome Thunderbird wyr as he stands against all comers turn to the petite and somewhat lost little fairy with such tender care and support is sure to melt even the most hardened heart.
So far in this series, readers have been given insights into the Wyr and the Dark Fae demesnes. We have also been introduced to the vampires, so it comes as no surprise that the next book in this Elder Races series, SERPENT'S KISS, will center on them. This reader positively loves Ms. Harrison’s enchanting new world and can’t wait to see what comes next.
