Victory Vaughn thought that after saving the world from a Destroyer demon, she could get a break and return to humdrum life. Well that would have worked if that dang demon didn’t start haunting her dreams then killing whomever she gets close to. Now time is running out as things heat up and Vicky is off to train with her aunt Mab before the world is destroyed again. Can Vicky figure out what to do to save the world yet again from an evil bent on destroying everything she loves?
I loved DEADTOWN, the first novel in this wonderful and fun series. It was different and had a wild and quirky cast of characters that appealed to me. Victory “Vicky” Vaughn is a kick butt heroine who is like a real person with emotions and confusion like the rest of us mere mortals. HELLFORGED picks up where book one leaves off and delivers a few new characters to wonder about plus we see Vicky leave Deadtown and go to Wales which made the story a bit more exciting. Deadtown is great, don’t get me wrong, but I think if you set every book there it does get a bit redundant after awhile.
This author delivers one wild ride from start to finish and delves deep into her cast of returning characters. Ms. Holzner keeps the pace on high with lots of action, a few twists I sure did not see coming and the romantic triangle between Vicky, Daniel and Kane heats up. What I loved the most about this series and HELLFORGED especially was how we got to see more layers in the characters. They continued to grow with the storyline and for me, was a great part of my enjoyment of this second book.
Nancy Holzner is a wonderful and talented author who knows how to let her characters take the lead and tell their story. With tight writing, a fast paced storyline, few twists to keep you on the edge and an ending that makes you shout ‘WHAT?’ rather loudly that I was racing to see when the next book comes out. I loved HELLFORGED and cannot wait to see what happens in Deadtown next.
I highly recommend HELLFORGED as well as book 1, DEADTOWN if you enjoy a kick ass heroine with issues, zombies who can make you laugh, action/adventure and lots of great twists in a storyline. Nancy Holzner has gotten a new fan in her Deadtown series and I cannot wait to see what she conjures up next.
This is an objective review and not an endorsement of this book.
