Cameron Gamble is trying to move on with his life after a relationship that went bad. Moving to a new city, setting up a new business and trying to put the past behind him, Cameron finds a friend in a chocolate lab he names Mel. But Mel is no ordinary dog. It will take one moonlight night, a horrific nightmare and the truth of love to show Cameron just who this dog really is. For darkness is on the horizon and Cameron will need Mel by his side to face it head on or all is lost.

This was my first Jaxx Steele story and though I don’t want to say too much, at fifty some-odd pages, this author packs quite a few plot twists that had me flipping the pages trying to see what would happen next. The storyline moves at a nice even pace, the characters are well written & multi-dimensional plus add in a few angst filled moments and you got a gem of a short story to enjoy on a lazy Sunday afternoon.

CAM’S BEST FRIEND is more than a story of two people finding happiness. Cameron has scars from his previous relationship. It has caused him endless nights full of terrors as he relives those days in nightmares and he is at a loss at how to stop them. Finding and keeping a stray chocolate lab will change his life in more ways than one since the reader finds out alongside Cam that this is no ordinary dog. This author does a great job in keeping the reader glued to the pages, eager to see what will happen next for Cam and Mel as well as hoping Cam finds the peace he worked so hard to find. There were a few secondary characters that brought some lightness to the pages and had me smiling, more than once.

CAM’S BEST FRIEND is a wonderful short story packed with a few twists that will leave you breathless, a fast paced storyline to get lost in and an ending that will surprise you. I am eager to see if this author will do a follow up in the future. I would love to see how Cam and Mel make out after the events here. I look forward to checking out this author’s back list for more great stories to enjoy. If you want a short, enjoyable story to read, then grab CAM’S BEST FRIEND and settle in for a few hours of reading pleasure.

This is an objective review and not an endorsement of the book.
