What Will Regina Andrews Say Next -- on the Best Summer Reading Blog Tour

Our Best Summer Reading asked Regina Andrews about her favorite quotes. She said:

Great question! It always struck me that a character would say what they needed to say in a book --not my book, even though I was writing it - -and the I, as the General Contractor, so to speak, of the work, had to maneuver around what my strong characters had to say.

This is particularly true in my Inspirational romance novel “In Good Faith”. The heroine, Haley Hawthorne has become wrapped up in a lifestyle that’s new to her and finds herself focusing on material things to the loss of her inner values. Yet, she still speaks the truth, sometimes so bluntly it makes things difficult for her. For example, at one point in the book, Bernice, the office manager has a fainting spell and Haley is helping revive her. She makes a comment about the owner being an ogre and – you guessed it – he’s standing behind her and hears it all. Things don’t go so well for Haley after that.

Another example is when the hero, Aaron Carrier, comes to her office and tells her that her Uncle Nelson has passed away. Carrier is under the impression that she hasn’t been to visit her uncle since she left her home in Dunbar Falls many years earlier...yet that’s not entirely true. She has been back; explaining why she hadn’t contacted Carrier, she admits: “I was too embarrassed.” Revealing this about herself shows us so much about her true character, even if she is a little a too caught up in designer items these days. The real Haley is speaking the truth.

Matilda from Coffee Time Romance called “In Good Faith” “...a wonderful story that gives you a chance to reflect your own choices in life, similar to Ms. Andrews’ characters.”

It’s interesting, to me as an author to hear a character speak their mind...and to be the conduit for their words!

Thank you for having me visi

Here's a blurb of my novel, “In Good Faith”:

Haley Hawthorne is a successful Art Director at a high-powered greeting card company in Manhattan. Designer clothes and expensive material luxuries are what she uses to try and fill the emptiness inside — but it wasn’t always that way for her. Orphaned at a young age, Haley was raised in rural Dunbar Falls by her Uncle Nelson amid pasture lands and a clear sense of the things that matter most in life, including her joyful relationship with God. One day Aaron Carrier, her old friend from Dunbar Falls pays her a surprise visit to her office at Sterling Greeting Cards with devastating news about Uncle Nelson. When she returns home to Dunbar Falls, Haley is faced with a professional decision upon inheriting Uncle Nelson’s air-conditioning company. More than that, she faces a crossroads in her heart. It is a crisis of faith, of loyalty and of love. What does God want her to do? Will she be able to return home to Dunbar Falls and all that it has meant for her? And will Aaron Carrier be more than a friend?

Gina, It was so refreshing to read your excerpt with its message of character, morals and self-evaluation. I just finished reading '50 Shades of Gray' and I was so disappointed to what 'romance' writing had stooped to. I can't imagine anyone wanting to read books 2 & 3 of that series. Then, I read your excerpt and I have hope that the trash is just a passing fancy. Well done. Have a great week.

I'm sure it is a passing fancy, Sharon - fingers crossed! I'd read a million of Gina's books before I'd read one about abuse of women. I loved your snippets of Haley, Gina and, from the blurb, it sounds like a compelling read.Off to Amazon!

Haley sounds like an interesting character and one with a conscience too. After reading about Haley and reading the blurb, I want things to work out well for her when she goes home.

Congratulations on In Good Faith and all of your writing.
