Police Lieutenant Fallon Roxbury’s life is getting increasingly complicated. First, a twenty-year-old cold case turns out not to be cold at all. Then his best friend and partner, Sergeant Mack, needs to know the truth about Fallon’s private life. But no one’s going to believe in shapeshifting aliens, even if one of them is Fallon’s male lover. And Sundown’s leaders aren’t exactly thrilled at the way things are going either. They’ve always thought it might be better if their precious only catalyst gave up his human lover. Of course, the situation gets even more tangled after that.

This book is the sequel to “Beneath Dark Stars”, and has well-developed, multi-layered heroes, and sparkling secondary characters. Even some of the minor characters are a real treat and I hope to see more of them in the future. Ms. Kendricks has built an excellent urban fantasy world, with everything so perfectly normal and rational—until it’s not. And when it’s not as it seems, the world is even better!

The police/crime side of the story is handled well too, with enough detail to make everyone’s thoughts, fears and hopes real, but without so much detail it slows down the story. The depths of emotions shown is just right, realistic but not burdensome, and the MM sex scenes are hot.

An excellent read and something just a bit different. Not your average shapeshifter but better.

This is an objective review and not an endorsement of this book.
