Ever since Evan McAdams and Reed Matthews met on the peewee football field as little boys they have been inseparable. They have lived, loved and learned together and only one thing has been constant in their lives; their friendship. Although both men have come to count on that friendship they long for more. Yet each man is afraid to lose that friendship that they hold so dear and keep their secrets even as they lose themselves. After all these years will they take their last chance at happiness or will they once again watch it slip away and live in pain for the rest of their lives?

I always know when I pick up a book by Lex Valentine that there will be angst and emotions galore in it and this story is no different. I fell in love with Evan and Reed from the moment that I began reading their story. The two men are such a great team on and off the football field. They read one another like an open book yet they fail to see the secret that each man keeps from the other. I loved seeing their bond and friendship grow and survive so much throughout their lives. Times may change but Evan and Reed’s bond never strays no matter what. Their pain and love is so strong it is almost a tangible thing. The depth and emotions of these men made for a wonderful read. They go through so much not only on the football field but in their personal lives as well. Each one unwilling to share his secret because of fear and because of that they live half a life that finally takes its toll and in the end makes the men make some hard decisions of their own, even harder than when they decided to come out to the world. The depth of their love has the reader cheering the two men on and hoping that they will finally be able to find their happy ever after.

This is an objective review and not an endorsement of this book.
