For
sports agent Liz Darnell, winning was everything, whatever the cost. But when
she goes too far and her career is in jeopardy, she finds she has to regain the
trust of her number one client, baseball pro Gavin Riley. She gives Gavin the
opportunity of a lifetime to have Liz, as much as he wants, as she bargains
with him. But when lust turns to love, can these two accept that the field has
changed…for the better?
I
love Jaci Burton’s books and her Play-by-Play series is full of hot sexy alpha
heroes and sexy, independent women who tame them. Ms. Burton delivers a sexy,
hot story of two people who find that love can sneak up on the most hardened of
hearts within a blink of an eye. The writing is tight, story moves at a nice
even pace and the characters are very well written. I love how this author
creates such amazing characters, they fairly brim with life and I was waiting
for them to step off the pages into my living room. This is an author who isn’t
afraid to let her characters take center stage in all their fallible and vulnerabilities
on display. This is a story with characters you just cannot help but fall in
love with.
Meet
Gavin Riley. He is sexy as sin, a baseball pro and the number one client for
Liz Darnell…until she does something really stupid and Gavin finds himself
faced with leaving the sports agent who helped guide his career or let Liz
continue to represent him. Gavin is a man I would LOVE to meet. He loves his
family, his life and enjoys his job playing baseball. This is a man who enjoys
what he has in life, doesn’t aspire for anything more except to play the game
he loves so very much. My lord, when Gavin steps onto the pages, the heat was
sizzling. I swore I had fingertips singed from all the sparks these two had
together. Liz is a woman fighting for respect in a male dominated career,
accused of all manner of things and when she finds herself almost losing her
career as well as her number one client, well let’s just say the reader sees a
softer side of Liz. Liz took a bit to get used to, especially as she came off
at times as brisk, a shark in business and all diamond hard-headed. These two
characters are pure gold together. The heat they generate as well as the sides
they bring out of in one another is stunning. The author does a great job in
keeping the reader glued to the pages with these two as well with a story that
leaves you breathless in the end.
The
only downside I found was cryptic mentions to what Liz did to Gavin’s brother
Mick and the main couple in The Perfect Play so if you haven’t read that book;
I would recommend reading that one before CHANGING THE GAME. I know I
plan to read that book and then re-read this one to see Liz’s full story
unfold. Jaci Burton is a wonderful storyteller who delivers charismatic
characters, a rich storyline to fall in love with and books you can’t put down.
I highly recommend this series and CHANGING THE GAME for any sports
romance lover out there. Now I need to read the other books in this amazing
series.
