L.A. Witt tantalized us with The Distance
Between us, and continued the story in The Closer You Get. Now Dale finally
gets his shot at romance.
Dale Ramsey plans to attend his twenty-year
high school reunion. It’s something to look forward to, but the memories of his
high school graduation and ten-year reunion are back with a vengeance. On those
two previous occasions, Dale hooked up with his friend Adam O’Connor, only to
be left in the dust the next day both times. This could be a reunion to
remember, or yet another painful memory.
Adam has always carried a torch for Dale,
but the circumstances weren’t right for a relationship with Adam twenty years
ago, or ten years ago. Now Dale is single and within months of retiring from
the navy—and determined to make it work this time with Dale.
Determined to deflect any advances from Adam,
Dale is standoffish at first, but the chemistry between them boils over into a
night of passion. Once again, Dale wonders if he’s opened himself up for a
helping of heartache.
Having enjoyed the first two books in this
series, I’d looked forward to reading Dale’s story. As usual, L.A. delivers a
tale with sympathetic characters and pacing that’s just right. The setting is
appealing, and the ending is satisfying—no spoilers here.
I highly recommend this book, and look
forward to future offering from L.A. Witt.
