Hearts
As
chiefton of the MacDonald’s of Sleat, Connor holds the fate of his people
within his hands. Knowing there are others gunning for his lands, Connor
decides to have a marriage of convenience to secure his land and people. What
he doesn’t anticipate is his friend, Isla to charm him even as she warns of
looming danger.
Isla
dresses plainly, keeps her head down and loves Connor from afar. She has a
talent in knowing when danger is around as well as healing. When Connor gives
her a taste of passion, she finds herself falling in love with him but Connor
has to marry for duty not love if he wants to quiet the rumblings of others.
Can Isla find a way to show Connor the danger heading his way as well as what
his heart is telling him?
THE
CHIEFTON
is a lovely tale of danger, mystery, friendship and loves all rolled up &
tied with a bow and add in a sexy highlander to help you out, well let’s just
say this reader was thrilled to pieces. Ms. Mallory delivers a wonderful story
to fall in love with and you get a sense of all the research she did to make it
a bit more realistic. The writing was tight, story flowed nicely and the
characters are wonderfully well written.
Meet
Isla and Connor. Connor needs to make an alliance before the enemies worm their
way out and take what is his, namely his lands, his life and more. His friend,
Isla, minds his keep and loves him from afar but even as she warns Connor or
looming danger, he can’t afford to worry about it. Trying to figure out all the
players in the ame of take away is giving him a headache. I loved the dynamics
between Connor and Isla. Connor is strong, determined to do what is right for
his people and even though he feels duty is better than love, he can’t help
that hidden part of his heart that longs for it. Isla is Connor’s friend but
she also loves him with all her heart. What happens when friendship is off the
table and Connor sees what a delight Isla is? Well things never go according to
plans when the heart is involved. I loved how these two danced around one
another as the blinders came off of Connor in regards to Isla. The secondary
characters are quite a treat and moved the story along smoothly. Her character
building is impressive and if you haven’t read the others in the series, this
is a perfect introduction into it as it can be read as a standalone title.
THE
CHIEFTON
is a fast paced, wonderful story that leaves you on the edge of your seat even
as you flip the pages looking to see what happens next for Connor and Isla.
With the right amount of mystery, romance and more, Ms. Mallory delivers a
story that the reader will get lost in and after the last page is read, clamor
for more. I can’t wait to check out the rest of the books in this series and
see what else tickles my imagination.
