Sam has never gotten over his love for his wife of eighteen years even though they've been divorced for two years now. Finally his best friend books a one-night stand for him. Katie's son is all grown up now and although she enjoys her job it’s time she developed a life of her own, so the people at work push her into considering going on a date once again.

The meeting between them is handled really well. The reader gets a lovely taste of their fears, thoughts, and inhibitions as they each plan to go on a blind date. Throughout the story their characters are fully developed and unpacked layer by layer as they become so very real for the reader. The venue for the meeting is well described and readers will enjoy the beauty and romance of the setting. We only get a brief sketch of the few minor characters in the book, but in a story of only 11,000 words that's perfectly reasonable. There's one hot sex scene, and a neat wrap-up which is good, although it contradicts something we were told in the book which is never explained.

The story is cleanly written with a heartwarming dedication. My only complaint is that some of the reasoning in the story is understandable but also very avoidable. I found it a bit of a cop-out, although people certainly do act that way at times.

This is an objective review and not an endorsement of this book.
