Lady Mary Darrel should have the ton at her fingertips except everyone thinks she is dead! Knowing a secret her father is determined to keep buried, he has kept Mary hidden away, faking her death and sending her to an asylum. Help comes in the unlikeliest of people in the form of Edward Barrons, Duke of Fairleigh. Mary finds herself longing to trust this man who stirs her like no other but secrets abound between them. Can Edward keep Mary safe even as Mary’s past catches up to them?

LADY IN RED is a melancholy dark romance that had me in its grip, refusing to let go until the last page was read. The author weaves a subtle spell around the reader and we fall under her spell the moment we meet Mary and start going on her adventures with her. The writing is tight, story a perfect delight with a few plot twists I didn’t see coming and characters that you can’t help but root for. Ms. Claremont is a talented storyteller and one I have added to my auto-buy list.

Meet Mary. She is imprisoned in an asylum by her father, knows a secret that could destroy her father or get her killed and has no trust in men. Until she finds herself trusting Edward Barrons, a man who knows how it feels to be haunted. I loved these two together and was rooting for them to get their own happily ever after. The characters are well written, kept me glued to the pages and were quite memorable. The secondary characters helped move the storyline nicely and I couldn’t put the book down until I knew what happened next for Mary and Edward.

LADY IN RED is a thrill ride a minute that had me glued to the pages until the very end. With the right amount of mystery, romance and more, the author weaves a subtle spell around you and you find yourself lost within the pages in no time. I look forward to seeing where the author goes in this series and look forward to seeing what adventures await her readers too. If you are looking for a dark historical romance that will thrill you and keep you intrigued till the very end, then grab LADY IN RED.
