Addie was once a homicide cop in a big city, but her father’s health isn’t good, so now she works as head of security in an exclusive retirement community. Which was perfect until the most hated resident was murdered, and blaming his wife seems to be the easy option. But the more Addie tries to investigate the death, the more everyone turns against her. Including her own boss. But Addie isn’t a “let’s just brush it under the rug” kind of person.

I really enjoyed this mystery. There’s a vast cast of characters, many of them truly engaging either because of their attitudes, their personalities, or their sheer craziness. I’m really looking forward to more books in this series just to meet some of them again.

Addie herself is a wonderful mixture of tough cop, caring daughter, and persistent investigator, with a bunch of zany quirks and ideas thrown in for good measure. I liked her dad too. He’s fascinating and just sufficiently like her, yet opposed to her, to be genuinely true to life.

Like all good mysteries there are twists and turns, hiccups and people going off in all kinds of byways and tangents, but the plot moves forward at a good pace with the characters dragging the reader along with themselves.
A great read. I’m ready for the sequel.

As with several other books from this publisher lately, there’s a handful of stupid typos and grammatical errors that should have been removed by the proofreader.

This is an objective review and not an endorsement of this book.
