In this second book in this series the author brings readers back to the world she introduced us to in the book THE TIME THIEF. This book gives us Gwen and Gregory’s story. Gwen is constantly cleaning up both of her mothers messes and this last clean-up has brought her to the attention of several people and some of them are not so nice. Gregory is on his latest job when he meets Gwen and the two find themselves fighting not only for what is right but for their lives as well.

Once again Katie MacAlister pulled me into the unique worlds that she weaves. The world of Anwyn is a mystical place full of magic and much of Gwen and Gregory’s story takes place in this realm. I loved the little details that were worked into the story like Gwen having two mothers and Gregory being Peter’s cousin. This book is full of the humor and sarcasm that fans have come to expect from this author. Gwen is a great woman; always ready to give of herself for her mothers and Gregory is a good man. What will he decide when he could lose Gwen forever? Will he use his power to save her or will he stick to the rules of his job?

I enjoyed meeting Gregory and Gwen. The two may be on opposite Sides but the attraction and the beginning of trust is there from the start for them. Watching the two not only figure out their feelings but also figure out how to save the day made for a good read. While I am a big fan of MacAlister’s other series this one is turning out to be a promising new one that has me eager to see just where she will take this series next.
