Paul is gay
and because of this has been ostracized by his family. His artist great-uncle
leaves him an inheritance in Malta so Paul goes there to deal with the
paperwork. Paul has always loved both his uncle and Malta so when the will
tells him to live there for a year, he agrees. His uncle has a fake Caravaggio
painting and has painted the face himself many times. When Paul meets a man who
looks just like the painting they instantly form a bond. But beautiful Angelo
has enemies, and Paul’s brother is convinced he’s inherited a fortune and is
determined to claim it himself.
The artist Caravaggio is also known as Michelangelo and the art side of his story is wonderfully tangled, intriguing, yet comprehensive. This is an MM romance, and many of the characters are men. This adds a powerful background to what is, on one level, quite a complicated story with various layers. Paul and Angelo are both wonderful main characters. Some of the minor characters are also very appealing indeed. None are caricatures which is excellent. Ms. Quinton writes a gripping suspenseful plot with people who act predictably, yet always with a slight edgy twist to the way events happen. That twist makes her writing more engrossing than many other books.
This is a well crafted story with layers and levels to hold a reader under the last page.
This is an objective review and not an endorsement of this book.
