Kira Shayde’s BANE OF HER DESIRE is a story of social hierarchy, prejudice, romance and testosterone, lots of testosterone.

Holly Ainran’s brother has gone AWOL from his elite military unit and she plans to find out what happened to him.  Her first stop is to see his Commander, a Bane Ojore, who also happens to be a rare gray lion shifter.  These two instantly spark off of each other.  But the incredibly alpha Bane is busy searching for the traitors supplying weapons to their enemy, the hyenas, and all signs are pointing directly to Holly’s missing brother.  He doesn’t expect to find in Holly a high-ranking caste member who is adamant about ending the dated lion caste hierarchy and the lion-hyena war.  And he really can’t imagine Holly falling for a gray lion like him.  But Holly isn’t ready to give up on her brother or Bane.

Kira Shayde’s BANE OF HER DESIRE had all the makings of a really good story.  The characters were passionate, the mystery intriguing, and the caste hierarchy element will give readers pause.  That said; the sex scenes were unnecessary to the storyline and slowed the pace of the storyline.  The shapeshifting aspect of the story rarely came into play and was also mostly unnecessary to the story.  The social prejudice aspect of the story really was the only element that held the story together for this reader, other than the mystery surrounding Holly’s brother.

Kira Shayde’s BANE OF HER DESIRE is a story with a lot of promise, but also a lot of unnecessary filler that took away from the entertainment value for this reader.  BANE OF HER DESIRE is a good book, but not a great one.
