Essie Spreckelmeyer is outspoken and outrageous. She rides a bicycle wearing bloomers and vivid hats! How could a woman like that ever catch the fancy of a gentleman?

That is just what Tony Morgan though when he met Essie. He came looking for a job and this woman declared herself as the one who is in charge of the Spreckelmeyer oil company. Tony is a disinherited son and his goal is to restore his good name, not to clash with this stubborn and independent woman. But somehow that is what always seems to happen!

Deeanne Gist has given us another book in DEEP IN THE HEART OF TROUBLE. We first met Essie in Ms. Gist’s book Courting Trouble. She hasn’t changed much. She is still a woman ahead of her time, riding her bike and sliding down banisters. Essie is a wonderful and heart-warming character that I fell in love with and was pleased to have her as a character in another saga.

Tony is a character that had to grow on me. You feel sorry for him and his plight as his father is a real SOB for no good reason, cut Tony out of his will, leaving it all to Tony’s brother and left him homeless, penniless, and on his own. However, Tony has an idea of what women should be, and it is not one that should have her head in business, but instead run a household and have babies. He sees Essie’s behaviour as totally inappropriate. In short, he is a typical male of his time, while Essie is not your typical female. I absolutely loved the fur that flies when these two characters share the same air. Can they come to an agreement? Will attraction bloom and grow between them? That is something you will have to buy the book and find out for yourself! ENJOY!

DEEP IN THE HEART OF TROUBLE is a fast paced, excellently written story. One that this reader could hardly put down. Could there possibly be another tale in Ms. Gist’s pen about Essie? I certainly hope so!
