Mercy Thompson is a shape-shifting coyote who was raised by a werewolf pack. In the pack, she was taught loyalty and trust but after a forbidden love affair Mercy was abandoned by the pack. When her fae boss and mentor is arrested for murder, her loyalties will be tested. He insists he doesn’t want Mercy to help him, but she feels it’s her job to clear his name. She has never disobeyed her mentor before, but she can’t just stand by and watch him be accused falsely. Mercy doesn’t have time to think about it as the werewolves want justice and right away. She also needs to make up her mind about two men in her life. One is the pack alpha who has already claimed her as his mate, the other, a lone werewolf who is her roommate. If this decision isn’t made soon, dire consequences could result.

This is the third book in The Mercy Thompson Novels, the other titles are Moon Called and Blood Bound and have gone onto my wish list. This is an extremely exciting story that will carry the reader along on a thrilling ride until the last page. Patricia Briggs cleverly combines wereswolves, vampires, fairies and all manner of the paranormal and entwines them into today’s world, then adds in suspense that is chilling and thrilling, and a love story that is sensual and keeps the reader guessing. She switches from the paranormal, to human legal proceedings effortlessly. She takes the reader into werewolf pack psychology, fairy politics, then switches into the human world with ease. This is a fantastic read and I enjoyed it so much. It will have a permanent place on my keeper shelf. I can’t wait to get the first two in this series.
