The second of Joss Ware’s post-apocalyptic romantic adventures, EMBRACE THE NIGHT ETERNAL finds love and danger vying for top billing when ex-bodyguard to the mob Simon Japp meets his match in the shy and techno-centric Sage Corrigan.

With civilization all but destroyed, Simon Japp awakens from a 50-year “sleep” with the surprising ability to disappear at will. While others might be upset to find everyone they knew from before dead and gone, for Simon this new world brings the possibility for a new life without the violence of his prior life. Sage Corrigan was brought up in a post-apocalyptic commune whose mission was to repopulate the planet through polygamous relationships. When the resistance finds information that leads to the commune Sage once belonged to, she and Simon pose as a married couple in order to infiltrate the commune in the hopes of gaining additional information.

While this reader thoroughly enjoyed the first book in this series, Beyond The Night, it was mainly setting the stage for the series and world building with a nice little romance moving the story along. EMBRACE THE NIGHT ETERNAL picks up where Beyond the Night left off and is even better than the first book. This reader is most definitely eagerly awaiting the next book in this series.

The lead characters in this book were fresh and interesting. Sage has serious trust issues with men having grown up in a society where a woman’s only real value was in producing children. Simon has his own issues getting past his violent past and seeing himself worthy of love. The slow and easy way their romance blossoms when they play lovers for the commune contrasts so well with the dangerous circumstances they find themselves in as they attempt to accomplish their mission while under constant surveillance by the commune.

The only real stumbling block this reader had was that a point was made that Sage was a virgin. She returns to the commune where she must undergo extensive medical tests, as the commune’s mission is to repopulate the planet. How on Earth did they fail to notice that she was still a virgin? From that point on, the storyline stumbled and lost a big part of its momentum. A minor point really, but something that kept surfacing for this reader as the story progressed.

Joss Ware’s post-apocalyptic Envy Chronicles are really turning up the heat on other authors in this genre. EMBRACE THE NIGHT ETERNAL is sensual, suspenseful and adventurous. Joss Ware cannot write fast enough for this reader. And for that reason, she has gone to the top of this reader’s Must Buy list of authors.
