The zombies all rose when the Dante Comet passed by, but even though laws have been enacted to protect their rights, there’s a lot of hatred and fear about them. Jericho has managed to get a low paying job as an extra in zombie films. It’s a living, although barely. And then he falls in love with Dex, the make-up artist on the film.

There’s a lot of fascinating world building in this little book. Ms. Kelly has built an amazing world so similar to today and everything we know and relate to, yet incredibly different with special laws for zombies and breathers, and government regulations about zombie life. I really like the way she’s included people’s attitudes to the zombies, though. Little hints and glimpses as well as comments which make the world so clear and which the reader can truly relate to.
The romance is well done as well. The two men have very different personalities and attitudes, yet so much in common and there’s a lot of emotion and passion flowing just under the surface. Jericho and Dex are very real characters and their lives are engaging. The reader wants everything to turn out well for them and is invested in the twists and turns of the plot. The sex scenes are well written with emotional development as well as detail and there’s some light hearted humor to leven the less desirable parts of zombie life.
This is an interesting world and a good story well worth reading, providing the reader can cope with a bit of horror in their romance.

This is an objective review and not an endorsement of this book.
